1. What is Aircraft Maintenance?
- In aviation terms, the word maintenance refers to the performance of tasks required to ensure the continuing airworthiness of an aircraft including any one or combination of overhaul, inspection, replacement, defect rectification and the embodiment of a modification or repair.
- Aircraft Maintenance relates to the aircraft equipment inspection, repair, modification, and overhaul. They need to ensure the quality and airworthiness of the aircraft are fit to fly. Aircraft Maintenance technicians and engineers are responsible for replacing worn or damaged components, testing engine operation, and detecting the malfunctions of the turbine engines.
- In terms of studies related, students need to acknowledge the skills, to inspect aircraft components and systems, diagnose aircraft-related problems and rectify these issues accordingly.
2. How to get a CAAM Part-66 Aircraft Maintenance License
- An applicant must furnish evidence and demonstrate sufficient knowledge, experience, competence, and skill, per CAD 1801 current in force. Enrol in a CAAM Part-147 Maintenance Training Organisation (AMEC) and completed a basic training course by obtaining a certificate of recognition issued under the provision of CAD 1821 where both modules examination and practical assessment have been passed and completed.
3. What is CAAM Part-66 Aircraft Maintenance License (AML)?
- The CAAM Part-66 AML is issued by the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia allowing the holder to issue a certificate of release to service upon completion of maintenance task performed on a Malaysian registered aircraft. The certificate of release to service shall be issued when the signatory is satisfied that the work has been properly carried out and accurately recorded, having due regard to the use of:
- Up-to-date instructions and approved airworthiness data
- Recommended tooling and test equipment.
- Working environment appropriate to the work being carried out.
- Malaysia AMLs are issued in accordance with the current standard of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) contained in Annex 1.
4.What license is required to be a professional Aircraft Maintenance in Malaysia?

- The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) is the body of regulatory aviation in Malaysia. They issue a license for all categories of aircraft maintenance.
- There are several categories under Licensed Aircraft Maintenance which include:
- CATEGORY A1 – licensed aircraft maintenance Technician (Mechanical, Aeroplane Turbine)
- CATEGORY B1.1 – licensed aircraft maintenance Engineer (Mechanical, Aeroplane Turbine)
*NOTE: CAT B1.1 holder automatically covers CAAM PART-66 CAT A1 certification privileges.
- CAT A: Allows you to issue a certificate of release to service (CRS) following minor scheduled line maintenance and simple defect rectification with limited certification privileges.
- CAT B1: This license covers CAT A certification privileges. Additionally, certify the fitness of aircraft following the maintenance of aircraft structure, engine, mechanical and electrical system. You have the authority to sign for aircraft that are fit to fly.
5. What is CAAM Part-66 Aircraft Maintenance License (AML)?

7.Eligibility of CAAM Part-66 Aircraft Maintenance License (AML)
- An applicant for AML shall be at least 21 years of age.
- Passed the module examination required for the relevant license categories in accordance with the CAAM Part-66 exam module.
